A Short Description of SINDIG

SINTEF AS (SINTEF) is a Norwegian research organisation. SINTEF (http://www.sintef.no/) is Scandinavia's largest independent research organisation, and is a non-profit research foundation. In this project there is participation of two different institutes linked to SINTEF with different ownerships, thus with different PIC numbers. SINTEF AS and SINTEF OCEAN AS. SINTEF employs ~2000 people of whom most are researchers. More than 90% of our annual turnover derives from contract research for industry and the public sector in Norway and internationally, and we receive minimal state funding (around 6%). SINTEF is multidisciplinary, with international top-level expertise in a wide range of technological and scientific disciplines, medicine and social sciences. Our company vision is "technology for a better society", and it is an important aspect of our societal role to contribute to the creation of more jobs and work activity, through research driven innovation.

SINTEF AS is represented in this consortium by SINTEF DIGITAL through the department for Software and Service Innovation (SSI) and the group for Smart Data. The department for Software and Service Innovation (SSI) provides research-based expertise in data management / Big Data, Analytics/AI/ Machine Learning, HPC, Internet of Services and Internet of Things technologies. SSI has led several national research projects and has extensive experiences from EU projects in the Big Data PPP context such as euBusinessGraph, EW-Shopp, proDataMarket, DaPaaS, DataBio and DataBench – and new projects such as COGNITWIN, VesselAI, DEMETER and DataCloud.

SINTEF is recognised as a DIH in the European list of European Digital Innovation Hubs), and a member in the European Artificial Intelligence (AI) DIH Network (https://www.ai-dih-network.eu). SINTEF is a Norwegian national representative in ISO SC42 AI and is the technical lead of the SN/K 586 Norwegian national committee on AI and Big Data. SINTEF is actively involved in leaderships in the European organisations Big Data Value Association (BDVA) with the leadership of TF7 Technical Priorities including the subgroups of Big Data Architecture, Big Data Analytics/AI/Machine Learning, Data Protection, Big Data/AI Standardisation and Big Data Benchmarking.
