Improving safe ship navigation

A pilot in Bulgaria aims to improve safe ship navigation by enhancing Digital Twins of the area. The pilot will be implemented jointly with the end-user VarnaPort.

These enhancements include:

  • The integration of local weather models (wind, waves, fog, temperature), which will be created based on weather data collected in collaboration with NIMH, into an existing DT
  • The development of new functionality allowing for blind navigation in foggy conditions
  • The development of services and mobile app

The pilot will demonstrate the benefits of Iliad DTO advancements to reduce the time when the Varna Port and shipping channels to Varna Lake remain closed due to unfavourable weather conditions.
