Short Description of HIDROMOD

HIDROMOD is an SME established in 1992 as a high tech consultancy in the field of Computational Modelling of Aquatic Environments. HIDROMOD has participated in about 500 projects connected to hydro-informatics for clients all around the world in Europe, Africa, Asia and South America and has highly skilled professionals, including several with Ph.D. and Ms.C. degrees.

In 2002 HIDROMOD implemented a quality management system (QMS) which reflects the policies defined by HIDROMOD’s management board. Our goal is to serve our clients by continuously improving products and services, using highly qualified human resources, technological innovation and teamwork. This allows us to create projects according to clients’ requirements and needs, using the most suitable techniques to solve their problems.

As the foremost Portuguese engineering company specialised in numerical modelling HIDROMOD has worked extensively in modelling and ICT technologies both in the framework of R&D and Engineering Projects having the capability to deliver solutions at a global scale and to use these solutions to provide high resolution forecasts nearshore, where the economic activities are most important. In the framework of these projects HIDROMOD carried out studies on wave propagation, sediment transport by combined wave and current action, effluents dispersion, oil slicks transportation, floodplains delimitation, output evaluation of nutrients in watersheds, water quality and urban hydraulics. HIDROMOD is presently working in some reference projects at European level focused in the development and implementation of ICT platforms capable to integrate almost any type of data set, store the data in standard, georeferenced, formats and distribute information to the users in an easy to use and easy understandable way. The focus are the user’s needs and the platforms are prepared to easily deliver information according the user’s preferences (fully customizable dashboards). Examples of these projects are for instance H2020 HISEA or H2020 ODYSSEA. HIDROMOD is also used to support services providing daily information to a diverse universe of users with the most diverse backgrounds both in Europe, South America and Africa.

Regarding the issue of the present proposal, Hidromod started to work on these type of digital twins in 2007 with the development of an information management platform for Barcelona wastewater utility (CLABSA). This platform was focused in the provision of a beach water quality alert system integrating all the data gathered in (near) real time in the Barcelona wastewater network, wastewater network models and data analytic tools. After that, and long the last 13 years HIDROMOD expanded its capabilities in this area, being presently keep running several digital twins which are translated in the provision of near real time services to different sea related activities such as ports, aquacultures, water and energy utilities (water abstraction and rejection) and marine renewables. These services provide user fitted information integrating access to different data sources (including earth observation data and (near) real time local data) and high resolution model forecasts.

Role In Project

The main role and tasks allocated to HIDROMOD in Iliad

HIDROMOD has proven experience in developing and implementing operational digital twins. In the framework of Iliad HIDROMOD will contribute for the digital twinning services and modelling activities. HIDROMOD will also be deeply committed with the dissemination tasks and with the related business support tasks (market assessment, business model and business plan).
