Project Summary: The Iliad Project has been making significant strides in the realm of Digital Ocean Twins (DTOs).

Spotlight on Pilot Digital Twins: In this section, we delve into a few of our pilot DTs. You'll get a look at projects like the digital twin of the Trondheim fjord for water quality monitoring, the hydrographic survey in the Thracian Sea using a glider, and the North Sea Fisheries Digital Twin.

Iliad Marketplace and Academy: We're excited to introduce the Iliad Marketplace and Iliad Academy. These platforms are designed to be the nexus of knowledge, technology, and collaboration, supporting the growth and dissemination of DTO technologies and expertise.

Iliad Blue Technology and Business Innovation Facility (BTBIF): The BTBIF stands as a testament to our commitment to fostering innovation in blue technology and business. This facility is set to play a pivotal role in nurturing new ideas and supporting sustainable business practices in the marine sector.

Looking Ahead: As we approach the end of the project's second year, we reflect on our achievements and eagerly anticipate the launch of our pilot DTOs and the Iliad Marketplace in the new year. With the upcoming Plenary Meeting in Barcelona, we're set to unveil 12 pilot DTOs, highlighting the remarkable progress made so far.

Detecting and responding to marine invasive species rooted in ballast water amidst the continuous surge in maritime traffic, a trajectory expected to persist into the foreseeable future, there has been a pronounced escalation in incidents linked to Harmful Aquatic Organisms and Pathogens (HAOP) within port areas in recent years. This alarming trend emphasises the escalating importance of effectively confronting challenges associated with water safety and risk management in our vital port zones.

Predicting jellyfish swarms through citizen science

In the vast expanse of the ocean, understanding its intricate dynamics has long been a challenge. But this challenge can be mitigated by using the collective power of everyday citizens. The EU-funded Iliad project, aiming to create digital replicas of our oceans, known as Digital Twins of the Ocean (DTOs), is using of citizen science in its Jellyfish Swarm Forecast pilot project, which is led by partner organisation the University of Haifa.
