Organised by [EGU](https://www.egu.eu/) and [Copernicus GmbH](https://www.copernicus.eu/en), the ‘[EGU General Assembly 2023](https://www.egu23.eu/)’ will take place between 23rd - 28th April 2023 in Vienna, Austria. There will be a virtual option for those who cannot attend in person.

This global general assembly will address all disciplines related to the Earth, space, and planetary sciences. The focus will be to provide a forum where scientists can present their work and exchange knowledge with relevant experts. Early career scientists are particularly encouraged to attend this event.

EGU General Assembly 2023

The [Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC)](https://www.ogc.org) has issued the Call For Participation (CFP) for the [OGC Federated Marine Spatial Data Infrastructure Pilot 2023](https://www.ogc.org/initiatives/fmsdi4/) (FMSDI).  A Bidders Q&A Webinar will be held on March 23 at 00:00 UTC, and again on March 24 at 14:00 UTC.

Funding is available, and responses are due by **April 14, 2023, @11:59 PM EST**.

FMSDI 2023 has three parts, each with the goal of making Marine Spatial Data Infrastructures more powerful and user-oriented. Existing data will be used more effectively and new concepts, including Digital Twins will be tested in different areas. 

**Part 1: Digital Twin of Land and Sea Interfaces - Singapore**. Part 1 will develop and demonstrate the concept of the digital twin in the context of a land-sea scenario in Singapore. The focus is on the evaluation and exploration of existing OGC, IHO, UN-GGIM, and ISO standards and guidelines. Since the areas of land and water are traditionally separated organizationally, integrating data concerning land, sea, and their interface at the coast poses a challenge. With approximately 30% of Singapore’s land mass being less than 5m above sea level, data integration and analysis of “what if” scenarios within the Digital Twin are a top priority for Singapore.

**Part 2: Digital Arctic Connecting Land and Sea - Canada**. Part 2 also addresses data integration issues in the context of Digital Twins, but this time for the Arctic. With the loss of sea ice in the Arctic, continuing ocean warming, stronger winds and currents, and accelerated shoreline erosion affecting Arctic communities, efficient data usage and analysis is of the utmost importance for Canada. 

**Part 3: Integrating Land & Sea for Various Use Cases - Caribbean**. Part 3 of the project will use the warmer climes of the Caribbean to investigate how data developed primarily for navigation at sea can be used in other ways. The goal is to gain a better understanding of the data situation in the Caribbean and improve data integration. The pilot will invest in local capacity building and explore the potential of marine data in expanded sea-land contexts.

The OGC Federated Marine Spatial Data Infrastructure Pilot 2023 will be organised under [OGC’s Collaborative Solutions and Innovation (COSI) Program](https://www.ogc.org/innovation/).

Federated Marine SDI 2023 - Bidders Q&A Webinar

Following the success of the previous International Ocean Data Conference, the [IODC-II conference](https://oceandataconference.org/call-for-abstracts-international-ocean-data-conference-ii/) will be held at [UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France](https://en.unesco.org/about-us/unesco-house) between 20th - 21st March 2023, with a virtual option for those who cannot attend in person. 

Organised by [UNESCO](https://www.unesco.org/en) and [IODE](https://www.iode.org/), this conference will address previous conclusions on the topic of ‘global ocean digital ecosystem’ in the framework of the [UN Ocean Decade](https://www.oceandecade.org/) by focusing on the implementation of commitments and recommendations. Furthermore, it will also report on obstacles, solutions, identified challenges, and new knowledge.  

Participants are invited to engage in this conference by submitting oral presentations.

International Ocean Data Conference – II

Digital Twins of The Ocean - Norway - Webinar Series

This event is organised by The Iliad Digital Twin of the Ocean as part of a series of webinars.

Digital twins of the environment need large volumes of data and often combine diverse data from a variety of sources. While citizen science has been mentioned as a potential data source for digital twins, the full potential of citizen science in this context has yet to be fully realised. The Iliad project aims to explore the potential for citizen science to contribute to creating digital twins of the ocean (DTOs) and how citizen scientists and citizens can benefit from digital twins.

This collection of webinars is aimed at ocean scientists and modellers who are unfamiliar with citizen science and are interested to learn more about how it can be applied in the context of digital twins of the ocean. The webinars will: use a range of real-world examples to introduce citizen science and related concepts; highlight the opportunities and challenges of engaging citizens in digital twins; and explore the potential for increased citizen involvement in several Iliad digital ocean twins.

Iliad Webinar Series: Citizen Science for Digital Twins of the Ocean, 8-10 March 2023, 15:00 CET

The [10th World Ocean Summit](https://events.economist.com/world-ocean-summit/?RefID=SearchTAG) entitled ‘Inspiring ocean solutions’ will take place in Lisbon, Portugal between 27th February and 1st March 2023.

This summit will focus on bringing together a wide range of individuals from business and finance, governments, national and international policy-makers, civil society, and academia to develop new partnerships and discuss effective actions for creating a sustainable ocean economy.

The aim of this event is to facilitate high-level policy discussions on the topics of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution in relation to the ocean. Marine industries will also be addressed, including fishing, shipping, aquaculture, tourism, and energy. A notable feature of this year's summit will be the cross-industry sessions to leverage synergies and inspire cross-sector engagement. 

During the summit, plenary sessions will be held in theatres with networking opportunities in between meetings. The sessions will centre around ocean-based industries (shipping, blue food, plastics, energy, and tourism) and how their impact on the ocean can be minimised, including nature-based solutions for ocean restoration.

The 10th World Ocean Summit & Expo - Inspiring ocean solution

Tune in for the first-ever Annual Forum of the EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030” live stream!

This event will take stock of the first year of implementation of the Mission, showcasing the first portfolio of projects and actions to achieve the Mission’s objectives. The event will focus on the commitments to implement the Mission and illustrate concrete measures and actions to protect and restore marine and freshwater ecosystems and biodiversity, boost coastal resilience, eliminate pollution, and make the blue economy climate-neutral and circular, as well as recommend further necessary initiatives.

The Mission Forum will bring together key stakeholders to:

- Generate broad buy-in for the Mission, gathering the first communities of actors and boosting further adhesions to the [Mission Charter](https://ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/runner/MissionOceanWatersCharter);
- Mobilise actions and measures to contribute to 2030 targets, across the four lighthouses;
- Showcase concrete examples of programmes and initiatives from Member States, regions, cities, and other stakeholders, and give visibility to the first projects portfolio supported by EU programmes.

First Annual Forum of the EU Mission- Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030

Organised by Iliad as part of a recurring webinar series that will take place on the 2nd Wednesday of every month. The second webinar of the series is titled ‘Introduction to data spaces for digital twins of the ocean and will take place virtually on Wednesday 8th February 2023. 

This month's webinar will be hosted by [BLB](https://blb.as/) and co-organised by BLB and [GroundStation.Space](https://www.groundstation.space/). The event will focus on an introduction to data spaces with ideas on how they can be used in Digital Twins of the Ocean (DTOs). 

The Iliad webinar series is open to all who are interested in topics related to Digital Twins (DTs), and the ocean. Participants will be introduced to data spaces, data lakes, data meshes, and repositories by renowned expert Arne-Jørgen Berre from [SINTEF Digital](https://www.sintef.no/en/digital/).

During the event, the concept of data space will be introduced along with examples of different thematic data spaces in Europe and how they differ and can be combined with data lakes. Furthermore, an overview of the Green Deal Data spaces and the ever-evolving data space environment will be given by Joan Maso from [CREAF](https://www.creaf.cat/), and Mattia Santoro from [CNR](https://www.cnr.it/en) will give you insight into community building around building data spaces, including a blueprint to develop data spaces. 

A Q&A and discussion session are planned and we welcome all participants interested in data spaces. Feel free to invite your networks as this webinar is **free and open to attend.**
